- The path bar completes folder names as you type. Press ⌘L and start typing: up to ten matching folders appear, Tab completes the top one and steps into it, and ↑/↓ or a click picks another. Relative paths start from the pane's current folder.
- Bring your Finder favorites along: Go › Import Finder Favorites… adds the folders from Finder's sidebar that Inode doesn't list yet. Your existing favorites stay as they are, and Finder itself is left untouched. The same import sits in Settings › General › Sidebar and in the welcome tour.

What changed, release by release. The app updates itself; the stable download always serves the newest build.
- Sidebar rows have a full context menu: Open, Open in Other Pane, Open in New Tab, Add to Favorites, Add to Shelf, Copy Path, and Reveal in Finder. Depending on the row you also get Remove from Sidebar, Remove from Recents, Eject, or Run Search for saved searches.
- Eject works the way Finder does it: external and network volumes can be ejected from the sidebar, the startup disk never.
- Safer SFTP transfers. Inode rejects malformed server replies, refuses to upload symlinks and special files, and a cancel that arrives after a transfer finished leaves the destination file alone.
- Git status badges on folders with many changes are quicker to compute.
- Files that another app rewrites in place, such as a growing log or a file you
touch, now refresh their size and date in the pane straight away. - Fewer stalls while the sidebar updates its Active, tmux, and Finder sections. Only the sections that changed get redrawn.
- The
inodeterminal command opens two folders side by side:inode ~/src ~/dstputs the first in the left pane and the second in the right. - Occasional brief freezes of the whole window — most noticeable while browsing with a busy sidebar — are gone.
- Dropping several attachments at once from Mail now lands every file reliably, even when a transfer is cancelled midway.
- Attachments dragged from Mail, Photos, or Outlook now arrive properly and appear immediately — with the usual conflict dialog and undo if a file of that name already exists.
- Dragging files onto a folder in the same pane moves them into it.
- Right-click one or more folders to open them in the other pane; additional folders open as tabs.
- A folder replaced behind Inode's back — say, by a sync tool — no longer shows stale contents; the view recovers on its own. Finished file operations always show their results, even then.
- Opening files and folders — from Finder's "Open in Inode", "Open With", or the command line — no longer makes the window wait on the disk. A slow or disconnected network share can't freeze it.
- Switching folders quickly always leaves the folder you land on watching for changes, so new files appear right away.
- Open in Inode, straight from Finder: right-click any file or folder → Services → "Open in Inode". It works right away — no System Settings step — and starts Inode if it isn't running.
- Finder's "Open With" now offers Inode for ordinary documents too, not just folders — without ever becoming the app that opens them by default.
- Fixed: the window could freeze for seconds at a time. The sidebar no longer waits on slow disks, network shares, or icon lookups — it fills in as answers arrive.
- When restoring an overwritten file fails, the error now states exactly what is known about your original — preserved at a named location, missing from it, or unverifiable — and never claims more than the disk confirms.
- Reliability: if restoring an overwritten file after a failed copy ever fails too, Inode now tells you exactly where the original is preserved instead of staying silent.
- Fixed: the Quit button in the "trial has ended" window now quits — as do ⌘Q and logout while that window is open.
- Hardened against malicious archives, hostile server responses, and tricky file names — extraction, downloads, and batch operations refuse anything that would escape the folder you chose.
- A damaged session file no longer loses all your tabs and settings — only the damaged part reverts to its default.
- The app icon is now drawn from a vector master, so it stays sharp at every size.
- A brand-new app icon.
- Type-to-filter matches all words: type "pdf 39" and the list narrows to names that contain both, in any order. Space extends the filter while you compose it, and a caret in the filter label shows that you are still typing.
- Choose your list columns: the header's context menu adds created, last-opened, and added dates, kind, extension, and tags. Each pane remembers visibility, order, and width, and every column sorts.
- Send files via Mail straight from the context menu.
- Undo is sturdier: undoing an operation that overwrote a file restores the overwritten version from the Trash, and a failed undo stays in history so you can try again.
- A "Launch at login" toggle in Settings → General.
- Inode checks for updates quietly at launch instead of interrupting you.
- Connections support passwords — save one to the Keychain, or type it when you connect.
- Keyboard defaults match Finder: ↩ renames, ⌘O or ⌘↓ opens, ⌘⌫ moves to the Trash.
- Prefer the classic keys? F2, F7, and F8 still work, and every shortcut can be changed in the config.
- Add your own SFTP, WebDAV, FTP, SMB, or rclone servers in Settings → Connections, with no SSH config required.
- Every server appears in the sidebar: click to connect, eject to end a live session.
- Test a connection before you save it, and point SFTP at a specific private key.
- The
~/.ssh/configimporter follows OpenSSH semantics —Includefiles and variable expansion land the way ssh reads them.
- Connect to servers with ⌘K — SFTP hosts straight from your SSH config, plus WebDAV, FTP, and SMB shares.
- Copy to and from servers with F5, create folders, rename, and delete — with progress and conflict choices.
- Choose Inode's theme in Settings → Appearance: same as the system, or always light or dark.
- After an update, Inode shows what changed.
- Ask Inode's availability and error messages are now localized (English and German), and explanations for unsupported requests arrive in the language you asked in.
- A command-line companion: Settings → General installs the
inodecommand.inode <path>opens a location in the app, with flags for the Shelf, panes, and the visor;inode://links do the same from other apps, restricted to three vetted commands. - A plain-language pass over dialogs, tour steps, and settings — English and German; Ask Inode's availability and error messages followed in v0.4.6.
- Filter the sidebar as you type (⌘⌥F): matching groups keep their children, ↩ activates the first match, ↓ moves into the list.
- First launch opens a window sized to your screen instead of a small fixed frame.
- Privacy: error reporting is now off by default. Opt in under Settings → General → Privacy, where a footnote spells out exactly what a report carries.
- Safer file operations: a failed or cancelled extraction into a new folder leaves no partial destination, merges refuse conflicts up front, and when a cross-volume move fails while cleaning up the source, the completed copy at the destination stays put.
- Content search stays responsive: search helpers are time-boxed and cancellable, and partial results survive a timeout.
- Removable volumes get an inline eject button in the sidebar, matching Finder.
- The disk-usage treemap hides dotfiles by default; a header toggle brings them back without a rescan.
- Enabling Finder Windows in the sidebar without automation permission now explains itself and offers the jump to Privacy & Security, instead of silently doing nothing.
- Launch no longer hangs while macOS is slow to answer keychain requests.
- Folders get a preview too: select one in Preview Mode for a disk-usage treemap — switch between size and file count, and click a directory tile to descend.
- Settings rebuilt in the native macOS idiom: General, Appearance, Terminal, and About tabs. Changes apply immediately, and hand edits to config.jsonc fold in live.
- Visor fixes for multi-monitor setups: the slide stays on its own screen, and closing the visor leaves other Inode windows alone.
- Inode registers as a Finder "Open With" target for files and folders.
- One-time upgrade note: Inode joined the river42 app family under a new bundle identity, so v0.2/v0.3 installs update by downloading once from inode.pro — then re-grant Full Disk Access and re-enter your license key. Updates flow automatically again afterwards.
- Preview & Edit Mode (⌘⌥P): the inactive pane becomes a live preview of the selection — and text files are editable right there, saved through the same undo-friendly queue. Unsaved edits are rescued, never lost.
- A real search bar behind ⌘F: scopes from This Folder to This Volume to Everywhere, content terms, kind/date/size chips, saved searches. Results open in a split below the browse view.
- Ask Inode can search now: "find reports edited this week" fills the criteria and runs it.
- A Finder-grade "Open With" submenu for any selection.
